Marvin J. Walter Marvin J. Walter - Chairman of the Board

Marvin J. Walter was born and raised on the livestock and grain farm at Watkins, Iowa which he and his wife, Janice, still own. He graduated from Iowa State University with a B.S. and M.S. in Meat and Animal Science. Mr. Walter is an avid beef enthusiast and has been an active cattle feeder over the years. Since 1968, he has been an Ames-based businessman as the owner of meat related companies and is currently Chairman of W & G Marketing Co., Inc. and CEO/President of Walter & Associates, LLC and Dayton Road Development Corporation. Marvin has served the beef industry in numerous state and national organizations. He was the recipient of the 2003 National Cattlemen's Beef Association Vision Award. In December 2003, he was inducted into the Iowa Cattlemen's Association Hall of Fame

Darren Darren Dies - President / Sales and Marketing

Darren T. Dies has been with W & G Marketing since 1996 developing product, packaging, and marketing for the company. He grew up on his family farm raising hogs and cattle. He majored in Animal Science at ISU and secured internships with IBP Inc. and then OSI Industries Inc. in Chicago. He received his MBA from Illinois Benedictine College. Darren was hired by OSI Industries as a management trainee within its Glenmark division after graduation. After eight years of meat production and sales experience, he joined W & G Marketing Co., Inc. in Ames, Iowa. Recently, Darren was recognized as a Meat Processor Magazine 2004 Rising Star. He has been a director for the Iowa Meat Processors Association and is a member of NAMP, AAMP, and the Iowa Barbecue Society.

Robert Olinger Robert P. Olinger - Vice President of Operation

Bob Olinger has been with W & G Marketing Co. since its beginning in 1979. He grew up amidst crop, dairy and hog farming in Eastern Iowa. Olinger graduated from Iowa State University with a B.S. in Animal Science and Agricultural Economics. Olinger spent 8 years with Wilson & Co. in various management positions in the beef slaughtering and processing divisions before joining W & G. During his tenure at W & G Marketing, he has had experience in sales and marketing and meat production. He currently manages operations at W & G's roasting pig harvest facility and cooked meat facility.

FC Parrish FC Parrish

Frederick C. "F.C." Parrish is a native Missourian raised on a general livestock and crop farm. At the UMO he received a B.S. in Agriculture with a major in Animal Husbandry (Meat Technology) in 1959. In 1960 he was appointed an instructor responsible for teaching, research, and extension. A M.S. and a Ph.D. in Animal and Food Science in 1960 and 1965, respectively, were awarded by the UMO. In 1965, he became a member of the ISU faculty as an assistant professor in Animal Science and Food Science and Human Nutrition. After a 37 year career in teaching and research he retired as an Emeritus University Professor. During his career at ISU he taught and advised both under graduates and graduate students. His research included postmortem degradation of myofibrillar proteins and their relationship to tenderness and water holding capacity USDA beef quality grades, dry and wet aging, porcine stress syndrome and their relationship to tenderness and meat palatability. Also, his studies on feeding conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) to pigs have contributed significantly to improved pork production. He served as the coach and co-coach of the ISU Meat Judging Team and the Meat Animal Team, respectively, for over 20 years. And he has been a judge of many national and state processed meat shows.

Joe Cordray Joe Cordray - Extension Meat Specialist

Joe Cordray is Extension Meat Specialist in the Department of Animal Science at Iowa State University. He has a B.S. degree from Iowa State University, Ames, IA and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Auburn University, Auburn, AL. Dr. Cordray is extensively involved in conducting workshops and seminars for meat industry personnel on meat science and food safety. He has given over 100 invited presentations to meat processor groups or organizations (includes presentations in 22 different states and 6 international countries).
